2013 Oklahoma Sooners Softball: A Season to Remember

A National Championship for the Ages

The 2013 Oklahoma Sooners softball team etched their name in the history books, becoming the first team to record a perfect record in the Women's College World Series (WCWS) and claim the NCAA Division I Championship. Led by legendary coach Patty Gasso, the Sooners dominated their opponents throughout the season, setting numerous records along the way.

An Unforgettable Run

The Sooners' road to the championship was nothing short of remarkable. They finished the regular season with a perfect 49-0 record and claimed the Big 12 Conference title with a 15-2 record in conference play. In the NCAA Tournament, Oklahoma continued their winning ways, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 223-75 over six games. The pinnacle of their season came in the WCWS, where they went 6-0, pitching two shutouts and never allowing an opponent to score more than four runs.

The Sooners were led by a talented roster that included future professional athletes Keilani Ricketts, Shelby Pendley, and Jessica Vest. Ricketts, a two-time USA Softball Player of the Year, was unstoppable on the mound, posting an incredible 27-0 record with a microscopic 0.55 ERA. Pendley and Vest were equally impressive at the plate, combining for 118 hits, 78 runs, and 52 RBIs.

Coach Patty Gasso's leadership was instrumental in the Sooners' success. She guided the team with unwavering determination and tactical brilliance, earning her the NFCA National Coach of the Year award for the second time in her career.

The 2013 Oklahoma Sooners softball team's perfect season and national championship will forever be etched in the annals of college softball history. Their dominance, resilience, and camaraderie inspired a nation and established a legacy that continues to inspire generations of athletes and fans alike.
